“Of all the forms of inequality, injustice in health care is the most shocking and inhumane.”
– Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.

Do More., on their national, integrated efforts to increase awareness of, confidence in, and uptake of vaccines that reduce severe illness from influenza (flu), COVID-19, and the Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in at-risk populations. Flu, COVID-19, and RSV are common respiratory illnesses with symptoms that can range from mild to deadly. Vaccines help prevent severe disease and hospitalization from these illnesses. The shameful excess mortality experienced by Black Americans, due to common but preventable chronic diseases is inexcusable. We can’t wait for things to change for our people. To do so would constitute neglect and history will record a lack of leadership by our organization. We must immediately embrace the innovative strategies available to help reduce high morbidity and mortality rates, which disproportionately burden Black people. Our goal is to improve the quality of Black lives through prevention rather than relying solely on medical treatment options.
We invite everyone to join the 100 Black Men of America in the fight against health inequities among our people, especially those exacerbated by the COVID-19 pandemic, by first downloading the MIMI Rx app on your smart device and then beginning your own persistent biometric self-monitoring program.
These and other risk factors can identify the presence and progression of dangerous chronic conditions such as heart disease, stroke, and kidney disease.
The basis of this innovative technological approach to health care is an integrated telemedicine and persistent monitoring application called MIMI-RX which will improve access to health care for many Black people. MIMI-RX was developed by Eagle Force Associates, Inc., a Black-Owned Business based in Virginia. The recent introduction of this strategy to the 100’s Health & Wellness Committee has been transformative. MIMI-RX has received resounding approval from the 100 Board of Directors and the Health & Wellness Committee. We are calling our approach to health and wellness and all associated initiatives Health Care 2.0.
The COVID-19 Pandemic has compounded the dangers associated with the risk factors that persists for Black people and has exposed our vulnerabilities to a wide range of poor health outcomes. As we are embracing a new paradigm for health and health care, which is better suited for the majority of Black people than the current model, an equally promising use of this emerging technology has been realized. The 100’s Health Care 2.0 contains the potential to serve as a pre-hospital, field triage strategy for the detection and characterization of acute upper respiratory illnesses, including coronavirus disease 2019 (SARS-CoV-2), particularly in Black communities.
Create your own personal health record within the MIMI Rx application
Perform a Daily General Health & COVID-19 Symptom Self-Check on you and your family members using the MIMI Rx app
Measure and record your daily health vitals, such as, temperature, oxygen saturation, blood pressure, heart rate, body weight and blood glucose (if diabetic) using the app.
Notify your doctor or health care provider immediately if you have any significant worsening change or progression in symptoms or your biometrics/health vitals, such as oxygen saturation less than 93% or persistent fever with repeated temperatures 100.4 or greater or severe shortness of breath.
Follow up with your Primary Care Physician and invite to Enroll by selecting Provider Enrollment or accepting your electronic invitation and supervise you throughout your persistent self-monitoring program
Input your immunization record via the app, particularly your last two influenza shot data, TB test info, and COVID-19 vaccine information immediately before or after vaccination. (Select Immunization then click on the add or + feature)
Ask your PCP to order Bluetooth-enabled biometric monitoring devices on your behalf or purchase them from a reputable source, such as Walgreens or iHealthlabs.com.
Begin a healthy lifestyle change initiative and supplement your balanced diet and regular exercise by implementing an immune enhancement strategy to protect your health.
The Health & Wellness Committee’s recommendation to pilot test and evaluate Health Care 2.0 in selected Chapters was unanimously approved by the 100 Black Men of America, Inc.’s Board of Directors. If successful, we recommend that Health Care 2.0 be offered to all 100 BMOA Chapters. Your Health & Wellness Committee is confident that Health Care 2.0 will be a game changing step for our organization, our families, participants from our network, and for the communities that we serve.
