Conventions & Meetings Committee Chair​

Kevin L. Patterson retired from IBM in December 2008 as Worldwide Director of Sales Global Business Partners.  In his most recent position he traveled the world discussing I/T strategies with clients, Business Partners and fellow employees. Currently Mr. Patterson is a consultant for The Design Group of Miami (TDG). TDG is a boutique event management, planning and production company, specializing in corporate events, theme and custom décor fabrication with the ability to produce signature events worldwide. At TDG Mr. Patterson oversees budgets, event management and sales functions.  He has over 15 years of event management experience both in the non-profit and for-profit sectors.

Mr. Patterson worked at IBM for over 31 years.  During this time, he held numerous technical, sales, management and executive positions.  He was responsible for hardware product sales that cover just about the entire IBM product line.  He also covered several industries including government, education, gaming, distribution, manufacturing and finance.

Mr. Patterson continues to be very involved in national and local community organizations.  He was one of the founders of Charlotte’s African American leadership organization, Focus On Leadership.  He was the second President of the 100 Black Men of America Greater Charlotte chapter and currently serves on the organization’s national board of directors.  The 100 is one of the premier mentoring organizations in the country.  His role on the Board includes chairman of conventions and meetings.  He also served as President of the United Way Board of Directors for North Carolina and served on the local United Way Board of Directors.  Mr. Patterson and his wife, Charlene, chaired the capital fund ministry at their church, Friendship Missionary Baptist Church, which raise $5 million.  He currently serves as a Trustee at Friendship.

Mr. Patterson served as Chairman of the Board of Directors for the Arts & Science Council.  He is currently chair of ASC’s North East Advisory Council.  He also served as the annual fund drive’s co-chairman.  Mr. Patterson served on other arts boards including the Afro American Cultural Center and McColl Center.  He chaired the Charlotte Mecklenburg Public Arts Commission during the time when the City and County passed the 1% Public Arts ordinance and spoke about the importance of Public Art at an Americans for the Arts national meeting.  He and his lovely wife also chaired the Mint’s “Celebrating the Legacy” communitywide effort to support the Bearden / Driskell exhibition.

Currently Mr. Patterson also is Vice Chairman of the Jazz Arts Initiative.  JAI connects with the community through jazz education, live jazz performances and support of professional jazz musicians and their clients.

Mr. Patterson has been recognized by numerous civic organizations including JA, Inroads, YMCA, Focus On Leadership, 100 Black Men of America and United Family Services.  He was also named as one of the top 10 leaders in Charlotte by the Charlotte Observer and Charlotte Post.

Mr. Patterson is married to Charlene Price Patterson and has two grown children Charise and Craig and two grandchildren Isabel and James.
